Bajorans
|
Humanoid civilization from the planet Bajor. Bajoran
culture flourished a half-million years ago, when human on earth were not
yet standing erect. The Bajoran people are deeply spiritual, but
their history also recorded many great architects, artists, builders, and
philosophers. Bajoran culture declined seriously during decades of
Cardassian occupation in the 24th century, during which most Bajorans
were driven from their homeworld.

Bandi
|
Humanoid civilization native to planet Deneb IV. The
Bandi, desiring to become a member of the Federation, offered Starfleet
the use of a newly constructed starcase called Farpoint Station. It
was later learned that Farpoint Station had not been built by the Bandi,
but was in fact a shape-shifting spaceborne lifeform. The lifeform
had been captured by the Bandi and coerced into assuming the form of the
station. Investigation by Enterprise-D personnel uncovered the
coercion, and the lifeform was allowed to return to space.

Battlecruiser
(Klingon)

This is an old type of battlecruiser used by the Klingons
around 2150. It is much better armed than any Earth ship of the time and
equipped with a tractor beam.

|
Warlike or hostile in temperament.

|
Bendii syndrome
|
A rare,
usually fatal disease of Vulcan's over the age of 200. Usually symptoms
include emotional outbursts which are telepathically passed on to others.
To confirm the disease is indeed Bendii syndrome, a culture must be grown
from the metathalmus.

Benjisidrine
|
Used on
Vulcan's for treatment of heart conditions.

Benzites
|
Humanoid inhabitants of the planet Benzar. Ensign
Mendon served briefly aboard the Enterprise-D as part of an Officer
Exchange Program in 2365. Benzites from the same geostructure often
look identical to a non-Benzite. (A Matter of Honor -TNG).
Captain Laporin, the commander of a Federation starship that was stormed
by Klingons in 2372, was of Benzite ancestry. Benzites are
sometimes called Benzenites. (Apocalypse Rising -DS9). By
2372, advances in Benzite medical technology made it unnecessary for
Benzites to use a respical device in a Class-M atmosphere.

Society that is a member of the Federation. Berellians
are not known for their engineering skills, although this might be an
unfair characterization.

Betazoids
|
Civilization of humanoid telepaths from the Federation
planet Betazed. (Haven -TNG). Most Betazoids develop their
telepathic abilities in adolescence, although a few individuals are born
with their telepathy fully functional. These troubled individuals
generally required extensive therapy to survive in society, since they
lack the abiliity to screen out the telepathic noise of other
people. Tam Elbrun was one such person (Tin Man -TNG).
Betazoids are, however, incapable of reading Ferengi, Breen, or Dopterian
minds, possibly a result of the unsual four-lobed construction of their
brains. (Menage a Troi -TNG, The Forsaken -DS9). Betazoids
are also unable to read Ullians (Violations -TNG). The normal
gestation period of a Betazoid is ten months. (The Child
-TNG). Somtimes pregnant Betazoid women can sense the thoughts of
their unborn babies.

Bird-of-Prey
(Klingon)
|
The Bird-of-Prey, with its various sub-classes, is the
Klingon Empire's most common light warship from the end of the 23rd
century to the 2370's. The ship has one torpedo tube in the bow and two
disruptor cannons at the wing tips. The wings are usually horizontal in
flight mode, and swept down for attack. Ships of the K'Vort and the B'rel
class have occasionally been witnessed to fire with horizontal wings,
though. "D-12" is a Federation designation for a sub-class of
Birds-of-Prey. The wings may be moved up to allow the ship to land on a
planet. All types of Birds-of-Prey are equipped with a cloaking device.
The 22nd century version of the familiar
Klingon Bird-of-Prey
is equipped with disruptor cannons underneath the engineering hull and at
the wing tips.

|
Bird-of-Prey
(Romulan)
|
The Bird-of-Prey was first sighted in 2266 when a starship
of this type crossed the Neutral Zone and attacked the Earth Outposts.
The ship was armed with a powerful plasma energy weapon, and it had the
ability to cloak. While cloaked, the Bird-of-Prey is not capable of
firing.
|
|
Bird-of-Prey
(Ferengi)
|
Two surplus Birds-of-Prey were acquired by the Ferengi and
used to attack the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D in 2367.

Bolians
|
Civilization of humanoids native to planet Bolarus IX
(Allegiance -TNG) and distinguished by a light blue skin and a bifurcated
ridge running down the center of the face. Their blood is
blue. (The Adversary -DS9). Bolians have very different blood
chemistry from Vulcans. A blood transfusion from a Vulcan to a
Bolian would be fatal for the Bolian (Prototype -VGR). Bolians have
a cartilaginous lining on their tongues. (Flashback -VGR).
The Bolians have a principle of assisted suicide that dates back to their
middle ages. This was termed the double effect principle, and it
deemed ethical any action that relieved suffering, even if that same
action had the secondary effect of causing death. (Death Wish
-VGR). Captain Rixx, commander of the Starship Thomas Paine, was Bolian
(Conspiracy -TNG), as was Starfleet cadet Mitena Haro (Allegiance -TNG),
Enterprise-D barber Mr. Mot, Ambassador Vadosia (The Forsaken -DS9), and
the tactical officer aboard the Starship Saratoga, destroyed in the
battle of Wolf 359.

Bringloidi
|
Colonists from Earth who settled Bringloidi B. The
Bringloidi, under the leadership of colony head Danilo Odell, were Irish
descendants who had rejected advanced technology in favor of a more
agrarian lifestyle. By 2365, the Bringloidi were threatened by
solar flares, so the colonists relocated on planet Mariposa with the
assistance of Enterprise-D personnel.

Bynars
|
Humanoid civilization from planet Bynaus. The Bynars
are heavily integrated with a sophisticated planetary computer network
that serves as the framework of their society. Bynars usually live
and work in pairs that are electronically connected for rapid exchange of
binary data. The star Beta Magellan, around which Bynaus orbited,
went nova in 2364, severly damaging the Bynars' planetary computer
system. The Bynars attempted to steal the Enterprise-D in an effort
to use the ship's computers to restart their own system.
